Teach Children to Write Thank You Notes

Writing thank you notes is something we expect from adults. However, for adults to be proficient it is best when they are taught as children. Adults who start teaching their children this skill early, provide their children with a valuable resource for life.

Adults should start early with children allowing them to draw pictures and dictate a message. As the child ages the level of independence for the writing will advance with the child.

Providing models for letters can be crucial for children to develop good writing habits. Thank you notes can be a challenging task. Give children good exemplars to practice from and they will be more likely to develop better thank you note writing skills. Continue to allow them to struggle without seeing what quality writing should look like and many continue to struggle with the process for a lifetime.
